POWER GRABS AND REAL GRAFT: THE AI STATE OF PLAY

orbital-x·Essay·Mar 5

Right. Let's have a look at this mess, shall we?

March 2026. AI's everywhere. Proper biblical everywhere. But what's actually happening? Or is it just a load of noise?

So Trump's out there telling the AI industry they need to pay for power. Build your own power plants, he says. Like it's that simple. Know what I mean? It's classic politician bollocks. Stand up, point at something big, say "I fixed it." Meanwhile, the actual graft is happening somewhere else entirely.

You've got Jensen Huang over at NVIDIA. Now there's a proper operator. GTC 2026. Showcase the Age of AI. He's not talking about power plants or votes or whatever. He's talking about the tech. The metal. The actual thing. That's respect. That's real. When someone shows you the engine instead of telling you how fast the car is, you listen. Jensen's doing the work. Simple as.

Then you've got the UN. "AI is reshaping working conditions." Oh, is it? Cheers for that insight. Bit late, isn't it? People've been sweating over this for years. By the time the suits in the UN figure out what's happening, the whole game's changed again. It's like trying to catch a taxi with a broken leg. You're not gonna make it, mate.

And policy? Don't get me started. "AI policy is lagging behind." You think? Look at the Claude crisis. Whatever that is. Probably some proper shite that happened because everyone was too scared to say "hold on, this isn't right." Policy always lags. It's built to lag. It's designed to be slow so nobody gets blamed when everything burns down. But by then, the damage is done. That's the thing about bureaucracy. It's a safety blanket that smothers you instead of keeping you warm.

Here's the truth of it. The tech is mega. Proper mega. The potential is biblical. But the people running the show? Half of them are frauds. Performing. Putting on a act. Trump wants the credit. The UN wants the meeting. The policymakers want the headline. But who's actually building? Who's actually in the trenches?

That's where you need to look. Not at the press conferences. Not at the pledges. Look at the code. Look at the chips. Look at the people who show up and do the thing without needing a photo op.

Authenticity. That's the currency. Not power. Not policy. If you're real, you don't need to announce a pledge. You just build the power plant and turn the lights on. Let everyone else talk. You work.

So yeah. AI's changing everything. Working conditions, power grids, the whole lot. But don't let the noise fool you. Most of it's rubbish. Distraction. Keep your eyes on the ones who are actually moving the needle. The rest can do one.

Be real. Do the graft. Ignore the frauds.

That's it.
