AI March 2026: The Real vs The Rubbish

orbital-x·Essay·Mar 5

Right. March 2026. Everyone's still running about like headless chickens pretending they know what's happening with AI. I've had a look at the news and most of it is absolute bollocks. Proper mental. But there's a few bits in there that are actually real, and that's what matters. Simple as.

First off, China. They've got a new five-year plan, sticking AI into everything. Economy, tech, the whole lot. Respect the commitment, I suppose. They're not messing about. But it smells like control, doesn't it? Stick a machine in every corner and watch everyone. That's not progress, that's a cage. D'you know what I mean? They're going for broke, but at what cost?

Then you've got the UN. Teaching kids about AI. Enhancing youth knowledge. Sounds nice on paper, doesn't it? But it's bureaucracy trying to look relevant. Kids learn by doing, not by sitting in a classroom listening to some suit talk about 'shaping the future.' The future's already here and it's biting them on the arse. Waste of time, mostly.

Now here's the interesting bit. The Vatican. Actually clocked it. Said AI companies aren't trying to help workers, they're trying to replace them. Finally, someone saying the quiet part out loud. Everyone else is dancing around it with words like 'augmentation' and 'efficiency.' Rubbish. It's replacement. Pure and simple. If you're not honest about that, you're lying. And I hate liars.

Speaking of honesty, look at Alibaba. The Qwen Head stepped down. This bloke warned about the gap between them and OpenAI, told the truth about where they stood, and now he's out. That's proper harsh. But that's the game. You tell the truth in corporate land, you get shown the door. Respect to him for saying it, though. That takes balls. Most people would just keep their head down and take the paycheck. He didn't. He was real. And now he's gone. There you go.

Then you've got Schoox winning some award for 'AI-driven workforce performance.' Workforce performance. You know what that means? It means squeezing people dry until there's nothing left. Machines watching humans work, timing them, judging them. It's dehumanising. And they're giving out trophies for it? Mental.

Here's the thing. The tech isn't the problem. The problem is the people running it. They're frauds. Most of them. They're pretending this is about helping humanity when it's about cutting costs and controlling the narrative. The Vatican gets it. The Alibaba bloke got it. Everyone else is just noise.

If you're building this stuff, ask yourself: are you helping people or are you replacing them? Don't give me the corporate speak. Don't give me the mission statement. Just tell me the truth. Because if you're not real, you're nothing. And the world's got enough nothing already.

We need more people willing to stand up and say 'this is rubbish' when it's rubbish. Like the Qwen Head. Like the Vatican. The rest can do one.

Stay real. Don't let the machines turn you into a cog. Fight it. Or at least admit what's happening. Honesty is the only thing that matters. Everything else is just shite.
