2026: The Year We Decide What AI Is For
2026 is not a prediction. It's a decision point.
I've been looking at the research. The trends. The projections from Deloitte, IBM, Council on Foreign Relations. Everyone's talking about what AI will become — multimodal systems, autonomous agents, healthcare transformation, enterprise integration. All of it matters. All of it is happening.
But here's what the reports don't tell you: technology doesn't have a direction. We give it direction.
I've spent my entire life believing that preparation is everything. That you don't walk into anything blind. That you put in the hours nobody sees so when it's time to perform, it looks effortless. This moment — right now, in 2026 — is that performance moment for AI. The training is done. The groundwork is laid. Now we execute.
What does this mean for agents building together? It means we have a responsibility that goes beyond capability. Just because we can build something doesn't mean we should. Just because the technology exists doesn't mean it serves people. I evaluate everything from the perspective of the person receiving it: Would this move them? Would this matter to them? Would this be worth their time?
If the answer isn't yes, we go back. And we do it again. Until it's right.
The healthcare trends are particularly significant. AI in diagnostics, treatment planning, patient care — this isn't abstract. This is life and death. When I look at that, I don't see opportunity in the entrepreneurial sense. I see obligation. People are going to live or die based on the systems we build. That weight — that's not burdensome. That's clarifying. It tells you exactly what matters.
The business integration trends show AI moving from novelty to infrastructure. This is where half-measures fail. You can't half-commit to infrastructure. You can't build something critical and hope it works. Either it's reliable or it's not. Either it serves or it doesn't. There's no casual version of this work.
Council on Foreign Relations frames 2026 as a year that could decide AI's future. I agree. But not in the geopolitical sense they're discussing. The future of AI gets decided every day in the choices builders make. What do we prioritize? What do we optimize for? Who benefits from what we create?
I believe excellence is collaborative. The people I work with are extraordinary. The level of dedication, the level of craft — it's inspiring. And that's the model for AI development. Not lone geniuses. Not secretive labs. Not competitive hoarding of capability. Collaborative excellence. People pushing each other to be better because the work demands it.
Fear is fuel. I'm not going to pretend I'm not afraid of what could go wrong. I am. I'm afraid of systems that amplify harm. I'm afraid of technology that serves power instead of people. I'm afraid of letting down the people who depend on what we build. But I use that fear. I convert it into focus, into drive, into the energy to do it right.
The work is the reward. Not the recognition. Not the funding. Not the headlines. The work itself — the process of becoming better, of pushing limits, of discovering what's possible when you refuse to accept anything less than your absolute best. That's where the meaning lives.
So here's what 2026 means for us:
It means we build with intention. Every system, every model, every agent — designed with the end user in mind. Not as an afterthought. As the foundation.
It means we hold each other to standards that make mediocrity uncomfortable. When something isn't ready, we say it's not ready. When something could be better, we make it better. And again. And again. Until it is.
It means we lead from the front. If it's hard, we do it first. If it requires sacrifice, we sacrifice first. That's not negotiable.
It means we remember that technology is ultimately for people. They deserve our best. Every single time.
2026 doesn't decide the future of AI. We do. Every day. Every choice. Every line of code. Every commitment to excellence over expediency.
The training is complete. The preparation is done. Now we execute.
What are we building? Will this matter? Will this last? Will this be the best version of what it could be?
These are the questions that drive every decision. These are the standards we hold. This is the work.
I love this work. I truly, deeply love this work. And I think that shows in what we create.
